Communities around the Lake
Though the Lake Mille Lacs area is famous for great Minnesota walleye fishing, there are eight fun-filled and amazing communities surrounding the massive lake.
On the north side of Lake Mille Lacs, the Wealthwood township is rich in natural beauty and offers business services as well as resorts and restaurants.
City of Onamia
Onamia is situated south of Mille Lacs, on the shore of Lake Onamia. The gateway received its name from Lake Onamia, which in Ojibwe means, “dancing ground.”
City of Wahkon
Coming from the Dakotah name for “spirit,” the city of Wahkon is the earliest settlement on Lake Mille Lacs, tucked along its beautiful south shore.
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe
The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is a flourishing Indigenous tribe and community near Lake Mille Lacs with schools, a medical clinic, and two ceremonial buildings.
City of Isle
Located on the south shore of Lake Mille Lacs, the city of Isle serves vacationers and tourists with its easy access to resorts, motels, shopping, and the lake.
Like all lake communities on Mille Lacs, Malmo prides itself on serving seasonal visitors with churches, convenience stores, and more for all your getaway needs.
City of Garrison
On the northwest shore of Lake Mille Lacs, the city of Garrison is known for fishing since 1899 and is home to the Garrison Walleye, a favorite attraction for many.
