If you’re looking for great hiking trails in MN, head to the Lake Mille Lacs area. You’ll discover the Mille Lacs Soo Line Trail with 11 miles of trails, Mille Lacs Kathio and Father Hennepin State Parks, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot the elusive albino whitetail deer that lives nearby.


Mille Lacs Soo Line Trail

When it comes to excellent hiking trails in MN, the Mille Lacs Soo Line Trail is the finest developed section of the Soo Line Rail roadbed and it will eventually connect Genola, MN to Superior, WI. You will find plenty of convenient parking for the Mille Lacs Soo Line Trail, either at the Library/Depot on Roosevelt Road in Onamia or one block south of Main Street on 5th Avenue in Isle.

After hiking, you’ll want to enjoy a refreshing swim, so pack along your swimming gear. Father Hennepin State Park features a long, beautiful sand beach and swimming area—the perfect spot to take a dip in Lake Mille Lacs during a break from your adventures on the hiking trails.
