Your Summer Isn’t Over Yet: Last Call for Mille Lacs August Bucket List Fun
By: Mille Lacs Area Tourism
Call them the dog days of summer, maybe even take a quick glance at the school supply list, but don’t you dare even think for one second that summer is over. There’s sun, there’s sand, and there are endless opportunities for fun and adventure. It’s a classic feel-good equation for a season to remember, so don’t start packing it in quite yet. Summer is still playing, and it’s the blockbuster hit on Lake Mille Lacs.
When the temperature drops and the sun sits lower in the sky, you don’t want to be kicking yourself, asking, “Why didn’t I dive in when I had the chance?” Gaze upon August in Minnesota like the king it is–majestic. It’s time to dig your heels in and check off the rest of your Minnesota summer bucket list, because–it ain’t over ‘til it’s over.
A non-negotiable requirement of last chance summer fun is ice cream. Add in a round or two of mini-golf, and any thought of fall will completely vanish from your mind. Scoop up some Caramel Carnival. Catch a drip (or ten) of Amaretto Cherry Fudge at Sweets N’ Such. Or step into Lake Country Crafts & Cones for a cone filled with a doozie – 3 scoops! – of Lake Effect Pothole or P.B. Cookies N’ Cream. Then there’s Lil ’Stix Mini Golf & Family Fun Park at Fiddlestix Rv Park and Mini Golf proudly serving Bridgemans Ice Cream. A game here will result in wins, losses, laughter and lifelong memories.
Speaking of a classic feel-good recipe for a memorable summer, how about an evening bonfire at a Musky Lodge with your crew and a tower of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers? Bring your ghost stories and favorite campfire songs. The beautiful stars overhead and a gently rippling lake will be provided.
Obviously, you need to get in one more day on the water, either with a fishing guide to snag that last trophy walleye or for one more chance to simply cast the day away with the kids. Remember, winter will come and you’ll pine for days like this, so savor it while you can!
Last chance summer fun on a hiking or ATV trail? Yes, please. The historical Mille Lacs Soo Line Trail is a must-visit; you don’t want to miss Father Hennepin State Park’s 320 acres of trails, and Mille Lacs Kathio State Park is a glorious mix of terrain suitable for hikers of all levels. As far as all the adventurous sun-soaked things to do, Mille Lacs offers room to roam and a front row seat to nature’s best show.
Breathe in, breathe out as you experience nature’s beauty at its finest. As the sun sets on another incredible day on Lake Mille Lacs, find peace and sanctuary in knowing you did it. You took the summer and you made it unforgettable. You filled that bucket to the brim and let it overflow with memories to the very end–memories that you and your family will always remember.
