Well, the fishing photos that appeared on social media told the story of the bite on Mille Lacs. It wasn’t just the walleyes either. Everything from northerns to bass to muskies were also caught during opening weekend and the days following. The weather was nasty on Saturday but the bite was hot for the brave souls that ventured out.
With the water temps continuing to warm up the bite should continue to improve across the board.
In the evenings anchor up in the shallow water anywhere from 5-13 feet and toss out a bobber tipped with a leech. Trolling was productive on the shallow reefs using #5 and #7 shad raps with the speckled purple #7 or UV colored husky jerks working early and dark blue turning on before sunrise. Speeds ranged from 1.6 to 1.8mph.
Launches on the North end of the lake reported spectacular bites in the evenings while bobber fishing.
Northerns were caught trolling in the bays with a Muskie or two thrown in.
