It took awhile but the ice fishing season is finally in full swing. Most are allowing all traffic but please be sure to check with the resort directly on what they are allowing on the ice. PLEASE drive slow!

Ice and Fishing Reports From Around the Lake:

Hawthorne’s Guide Service – 1/30/2020 – We have another great weekend ahead of us on Mille Lacs. Getting away from the crowds is definitely key. Keep the noise and traffic down and you’ll catch more fish. We’re still fishing the bottom edges of the mud flats on the north end in 29-32ft. For the wheel house guys make sure to drill and find that edge, sometimes 10-20ft makes all the difference. Tumbler spoons in perch and yellow perch working on the jig rods and every once in a while that blue glow shiner color is dynamite. On the set lines we’ve downsized them up just a bit, #8 hooks with fatheads are working on those stubborn fish and if you can get shiners…buy them. If you have any question just give me a ring. Drive slow on the ice roads, have fun, be safe and we’ll see you this weekend!

Lybacks Ice Fishing – 1/30/2020 – Fishing was again mediocre. Some did well and some did not. but so it goes. Hopefully the warm-up will be helpful. But I’m a little concerned about what it will do with the ice. There still is a few spots on the list for “weekend wheelhouses” but you will need to call to get on it. Our access will be limited to 3/4 rated pickups with tandem houses. No 1 tons or diesels. We have approximately 20″ of ice on the roads, but some of the new areas we plowed to have 15-18″ and we have ramps crossing a pressure ridge on both roads that I want to be careful with. If it wasn’t for that we would be opening up for all. You will need to be here and on the lake before dark as we will not let any out after.

Terry’s Boat Harbor – 1/29/2020 – The crack is bridged and we are making roads to the flats now, roads to the flats will be open for wheel houses tomorrow.

Mac’s Twin Bay Resort – 1/29/2020 – We now have all of our normal roads open. We are out about 6 miles and have many side roads in between. Fishing has been good this year. Catch rates seem to be pretty even from the bay and all the way out to the gravel. Ice thickness is around 20” in most places so we are allowing all vehicles and fish houses. Please keep the speeds down to about 10 mph with vehicle traffic. Good luck fishing.
