Bass season opens May 9. Are you ready? We certainly are!
Minnesota is home to some of the best smallmouth fishing in the country, and according to Explore Minnesota, the lake that takes the cake for smallmouth fisheries is, without a doubt, Mille Lacs. Check out their story, “The mighty smallmouth bass of Mille Lacs,” by clicking here!
Bass anglers from around the country agree that when it comes to trophy smallie hotspots, Lake Mille Lacs is one of the best. Just ask avid bass fisherman Jamie Davis, who has been visiting Lake Mille Lacs since he was a kid, more than 25 years ago.
“I’ve been all the way down to Kentucky bass fishing,” he said. “I’ve bass fished a thousand lakes and I have not fished a better one than Mille Lacs. It is that good.”
So good, in fact, 18- to 22-inch smallies are considered “normal” and fishing guides have experienced up to 100 fish being caught in just one outing. Can you imagine?!
Bass regulations are generous on Lake Mille Lacs as well, with a combined possession limit of six largemouth and smallmouth bass, with one smallie over 18 inches.
Are you hooked? Plan your summertime smallmouth fishing adventure on Lake Mille Lacs, Minnesota’s best smallmouth bass fishery. We’re waiting for you, and so are the smallies!
