LOCAL BUSINESSES JOIN FORCES FOR THE
3rd ANNUAL ADOPT-A-SHORELINE LAKESHORE CLEAN-UP EFFORT
ONAMIA, Minn. – Community organizations, businesses, homeowners and individuals are encouraged to participate in the 3rd annual Adopt-a-Shoreline lakeshore cleanup effort on Sunday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Inspired by the copious amounts of trash and debris that float ashore each spring after ice out, Adopt-a-Shoreline is a Lake Mille Lacs shoreline community clean-up effort started in 2013. This year, Grand Casino Mille Lacs, the Mille Lacs Band, Eddy’s Resort, Mille Lacs Area Tourism Council, Twin Pines Resort, Mille Lacs Messenger, Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, Nitti’s Hunter’s Point and Johnson’s Portside Bait & Tackle, Sandelands Realty and Fishermen’s Wharf this year’s sponsors extending the program’s reach to all sides of the lake.
With the ice already out, the debris and litter should start washing up onto the shoreline.
On Sunday, May 17 volunteers will clean a shoreline of their choosing. Collected trash can be brought to one of the designated drop-off sites – Twin Pines, Nitti’s Hunter’s Point, Johnson’s Portside Bait & Tackle, Mille Lacs Area Tourism, Eddy’s Resort, Fishermen’s Wharf, the Sandelands Realty drop off site located at 277 West Main Street in Isle and area landings like Shaw-Bosh-Kung Bay and Malmo Park. Around 3 p.m., volunteers from Grand Casino Mille Lacs will pick up the collected trash and properly dispose of it.
Grand Casino Mille Lacs will provide the necessary supplies for volunteers, including trash bags, work gloves, and most importantly – trash disposal. Volunteers can pick up supplies and fill out a participation form – which will keep track of the total volunteer hours – at the designated drop off sites beginning Thursday, May 14. When volunteers have completed their cleanup – they will receive a commemorative Adopt-a-Shoreline T-shirt as a thank you. T-shirts are limited to the first 200 volunteers.
Plus – send your group photos to the Mille Lacs Messenger at [email protected] with your name and clean up location to be entered into a drawing!
