Rocky Reef Resort as of 2/22/2016 – he weather looks great again for this weekend. The perch bite is really starting to finally fire up out front. There were a lot of them in the 10 to 12 inch range caught on small jigs and wax worms in 27 to 29 ft. of water. The walleyes must be hungry because there are still a lot of them being caught out in 27 ft. of water. I do have some info on some tullibees being caught out front also, big schools were moving thru last weekend.
Lundeen’s Tackle Castle as of 2/18/2016- The walleye bite on Mille Lacs has been solid on the mud flats again this week – Good numbers of 14 inch walleye are coming from the bottom edge of the flats during the daytime and on the top edge at sunrise and sunset. Flutter-style spoons (Slender Spoons, Tinglers and Flutter-Buckshots) tipped with a piece of a minnow have worked the best. Some of the better flats include Blue Jug, 8-mile and Sherman’s. Northern action has been hit-or-miss. There is still some time left to spear (ends 2-28), and remember that ANGLING for northern pike will remain open into March (3-27).
Lybacks Ice Fishing as of 2/22/2016 – Sunday as anglers left reports of catches showed it was a pretty good weekend for most. Some didn’t do to well and some had some good catches. The shallow water overall had the biggest fish. Heard of 3 Northern over 40? C/R, numerous Walleyes from 24?-28? too. The deeper reefs and gravel seemed to have more smaller Walleyes. Perch most everywhere were biting but the smaller 7-9? were the most active. The “keepers” were not as active though many with cameras were seeing them. The water started freezing up more and by the middle-end of this week should be froze solid with the temps that are coming. This Sunday will be the last Walleye weekend and we can keep houses out unattended overnight until March 7th. I will keep a couple rentals out for Tullibee and Perch fishing. and a couple in Northern Pike areas as the Pike season is open on Mille Lacs until March 27th. After the 7th we will keep the road open as long as the weather permits.
Fishermen’s Wharf Resort as of 2/20/2016 – Ice roads are looking good and the few cracks have not presented any problems from yesterdays rain & warm temps. There is a few inches of water on the ice and varies a bit from place to place. Only a couple houses have moved due to water but we do want to remind everyone about the potential of houses freezing in if not blocked up appropriately. Please let us know when your house is ready to be pulled off the ice. Walleye season closes Sun. 2/28 but as long as weather & ice hold up customers can stay on the ice until Sun. March 6th.
The Ducks Unlimited ice fishing contest in Garrison last weekend was a huge success. Next up is the Perch Extravaganza this coming weekend out of Nitti’s Hunter’s Point Resort.
