Those who chose to fish Mille Lacs this past opener most likely experienced some of the best fishing they’ve seen on the Big Pond.
Reports of huge numbers and huge fish being caught appeared everywhere.  Here are just a few of the reports:

Blue Goose Off Sale – Reports HUGE fishing being caught off their launch with pictures to prove it.

The Wharf Resort – Reported that you didn’t even have to leave shore to catch some nice ones!

Twin Pines Resort – shared a photo of Travis from Rochester with one of the first Walleye of the season (25in) and that the Twin Pines Launch is already seeing some great action,

Chapman’s Mille Lacs Resort & Guide Service – had successful Northern guide trips this weekend.  They worked last year’s weeds in the shallow bay areas.  They didn’t try any trolling because the weedlines aren’t up yet.  They casted mostly white spinner baits or Johnson Silver Minnows with a plastic body attached.

Rocky Reef Resort – Reported that the morning bite was pretty good, the afternoon bite was tougher, but there were fish out on the mud flats already. The night bite was a whole different story, he went out for 1 hr. with his grandson Treven, and they boated 17 fish, most of which were over 24 inches and they went through all 3 dozen leeches by 10:30 and had to come in. John says that the bite is good in the mornings and off the hook at dark.

Red Door Resort – Indicated that fishing reports were exceptional. Everyone of their guests were excited about the great bite and the most successful  lined up along the first break directly out front of the resort. Fish of all sizes were caught from 8″ all the way up to 30″.  A number of their park members pulled in multiples over 27″.  Many beautiful smallies were also caught while walleye fishing.

That’s all for now – we hope to see you in the  Mille Lacs  area to #dothelake!
